How are you feeling?
62% routinely find that they
end the day with work-related neck pain, 44% reported stressed-out eyes,
38% complained of hurting hands and 34% reported difficulty in sleeping
because they were too stressed-out.

Paradoxically, long hours at your desk can be a workout.
Unfortunately, it's not the kind of workout that brings us better
health. Office workers are in intense training for the Desk Olympics,
but there is no gold medal to be awarded for the effort. Instead, the
prizes include carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain and stiffness, aching
backs, eye strain, stress, and headaches [links to below]. The good news
is that there we can offer ways you can avoid these unwanted awards.
Even if you are not ready to give acupuncture a try, Traditional Chinese
Medicine has other treatments to offer including moxibustion and safe
and effective anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving Chinese herbs.
Back Pain
One reason why you might want to treat your back pain is that a study at
reported in The Journal of Neuroscience found that chronic back pain
actually shrinks the brain by as much as 11%, particularly the gray
matter, which is important for decision-making, social behaviour, and
memory! This is equivalent to about 10 to 20 years of aging.

Neck Pain
Having a pain in your neck does not have to be a pain in the neck. A
study by an anaesthesiologist specializing in pain therapy at the
University of Munich compared the use of acupuncture, massage, or "sham"
laser acupuncture on 177 people suffering from chronic neck pain. As
stated by the author of the study, Dominik Irnich, MD, their findings
concluded that acupuncture was "more effecting than one of the most
customary treatments for chronic neck pain [that is, massage]."

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
In a preliminary trial reported in the American Journal of Acupuncture,
83% of people with CTS (some of whom had previously undergone surgery)
experienced complete relief that lasted for two to eight years of
follow-up after acupuncture or electroacupuncture treatment.

Headaches
One large study of 401 patients with chronic headaches randomly
allocated patients to receive either 12 acupuncture treatments over 3
months or control intervention offering usual care. The results over one
year showed that the acupuncture group suffered fewer headaches, took
less medication, made fewer visits to their GPs, and took fewer sick
days.

Stress
Acupuncture has been shown to increase the release of anti-stress,
feel-good endorphins. Many patients fall asleep during treatment and
report feeling very relaxed afterward.
